Junghans Musical Shelf Clock

This nice little shelf clock has a small cylinder musical box inside.

This was manufactured by Junghans, Germany's largest clockmaker. Junghans produced many different clock case styles over the years. Of those that played music, some had cylinder musical movements and others had disc musical movements.

The case of this clock stands about 14 inches tall. The wood is walnut and is of typical German design.

The clock face is about 4 inches in diameter and has Roman numerals.

Behind the rear door is the clockwork.

Underneath the clockwork is the musical mechanism. It consists of a single comb musical movement having 37 tuned steel teeth.

The music is played as an alarm at a time preset by the owner. The alarm is set using a dial seen at the back of the clockwork above the musical cylinder.

The music plays until the spring is wound down. The spring motor must then be wound again for the next day's musical alarm.
