Symphonion Musical Wall Clock

This is a Style 25R Symphonion Wall Clock.

The case is in walnut with turned and milled columns on either side of the central clock and lower door. The top is decorated with a crown and matching finials, typical of the German designs of the period.

A Lenzkirch clock occupies the upper portion of the case, with a silvered dial measuring 9" in diameter.

The panel in the center section is cut out and backed with gauze. This allows the music to be better heard.

The winding handle for the musical movement is seen on the right.

This model clock could be ordered with a clear glass panel in place of the bottom wood panel - at no extra charge.

In this picture, the door is open revealing a disc in playing position.

The disc is 11-3/4" (30 cm) in diameter, and is driven by the central spindle using holes just off the center of the disc.

The pressure bar covers the entire disc on this mechanism due to the sublime harmonie arrangement of the musical combs.

The clockwork winding key is seen inside the music box compartment in the lower left.

The clock strikes every hour, and then trips the musical movement. A silencing switch can be set during the night. The music can also be played on request.

The disc is removed here to show the musical movement.

There are 42 teeth in each of the two two musical combs.

The combs are arranged on either side of the disc in what is known as the sublime harmonie arrangement.

This provides for wonderfully ornate stereophonic musical arrangements.

The wood sounding board on the back of the clock against a wood wall in the home act to increase the fidelity of the music.
