Symphonion Style 10
Disc Musical Box

This unassuming wooden box holds a charming single-comb disc musical box. It was made by the Symphonion-Fabrik A.-G. in Leipzig, Germany around 1900.

The Symphonion company, under Paul Lochmann, by all accounts made the first practical disc musical box in 1886.

Here is the open box showing the 41-note steel comb, and the pressure bar that holds the disc in place. There is a pin on the central spindle that is used to drive the disc using a matching opening in the disc. This machine plays a 19.5 cm (7-11/16") disc.

The winding handle (removable) is visible on the right side of the box.

A very colorful picture with the Symphonion name is inside the lid.
